Psalm 30: 1-12 A Psalm of thanksgiving. 5..For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favour, a lifetime. Weeping may spend the night but there is joy in the morning.
Psalm 33: 1-22 A Psalm of praise. Love verse 12 Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord the people He has chosen to be HIs own possession!
Here is food for thought about horses used as a buffer and shield... verse 17 The horse is a false hope for safety, it provides no escape by its great power.
1 Kings 1: 1-53
And so king David reaches a age where is he cold all the time and by the sounds of it bed ridden from age so they sought him a care giver who attended him and laid with him to keep him warm. But he was never intimate with her. and her name was Abishag the Shunammite
Adonijah son of Haggith kept on exalting himself saying "I will be king" but never once did the king reprimand him. he was born after Absalom. He also conspired with Joab and with Abiathar the priest. they supported him but Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet Shimei Rei and David's warriors did not side the Adonijah.
Nathan said to Bathsheba who was Solomons mother what was happening that Adonijah was wanting to be king and was gathering the people to his annnointing as king. But Nathan told Bathsheba that she must go before the king and tell him and say that "Myh Lord, you swore to your servant by the Lord your God, Your son Solomon is to become king after me, and he is the one who is to sit on my throne/ Now look, Adonijah has become king, And my lord king, you didn't know it. He is doing sacrifices, and has not invited us, At that time she was speaking with the king Nathan the prophet arrived and he confirmed it with the king what Adonijah was doing and he asked David if he said he was to become king.And King David responded Call in Bathsheba for me . The king swore an oath and said As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from every difficulty, just as I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel' Your son Solomon is to become king after me.
So King David ordered for Zadok the priest Nathan the prophet and Benaiah son of Jehoiada . David said have my son Solomon to ride on my own mule, and take him down to Gihon. There Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet are to anoint him as king over Israel. You are to blow the ram's horn and say "Long live King Solomon" and then you to come up after him and he is ts to come in and sit on my throne. And so Benaiah son of Jehoiada replied to the king; "May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, so affirm it"
And so Solomon was anointed king and the ram's horn was blown and all the people proclaimed "Long live King Solomon!" All the people followed him playing flutes and rejoicing with such great joy.
Adonijah submits to King Solomon. He was afraid of Solomon, so he got up and went to take hold of the horns of the altar. It was reported to Solomon what he was doing so Solomon said if he is a man of character then not a single hair of his will fall to the ground, but if evil is found in him he will die. Adonijah submits to Solomon and Solomon tells him to go home.

127 - David numbers the people

2 Samuel 21: 15 - 22 & Chronicles 20: 4-8 Are about the battles between David and the Philistines and the descendants of the giant in Gath killed by David and his soldiers.
Davide writes Psalm 36: 1-12 and speaks about man's wickedness and God's goodness.
2 Samuel 24: 1- 25 and 1 Chronicles 21: 1- 6, 27: 23-24. 27: 7-13, 21: 14-17, 21: 18-30
David numbers the people.
The Lords anger burned against Israel again, and it stirred up David against them to say "Go, count the people of Israel and Judah.
So the king told Joab the commander of the army to go through all the tribes of Israel from Dan to Beer-sheeba and register the troops so I can know their number. Joab asked the king why he wants to do this. Joab obeyed the king and did what was required of him. There were 800,00 fighting men from Israel and 500,000 men from Judah.
What I found odd that in Samuel and Chronicles the Numbers vary in Chronicles in Israel were 1,100,000 swordsmen and in Judah itself 470,000 swordsmen but he did not include Levi and Benjamin in the count because the king's command was detestable to him. in 1 Chronicles 27: 23-24 David didn't count the men aged 20 or under, for the Lord had said He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of heaven. Joab son of Zeruiah began to count them, but he didn't complete it There was wrath against Israel because of this census, and the number was not entered in the Historical Record of King David.
David's conscience trouble him after he had taken a census of the troops "I have sinned greatly in what I've done. Now , Lord because I've been very foolish please take away your servant's guilt
And in so doing David had a choice which was given to him by God.
Do you want three years of Famine to come on your land, to flee from your foes three months while they pursue you, or to have a plague in your land three days; So David thought this over and answered Gad I have great anxiety. Please let us fall into the Lord's hands because His mercies are great but don't let me fall into human hands.
And so the plague began but Gods mercies on David was great and relieved him of his anquish and David built a altar sacrafice before the Lord
Each person should do as he has decided in his heart not out of regret or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver 2 Chr. 9:7 and the Lord forgave David.

126 - Israel and Judah quarrel.

2 Samuel 19: 31-43, 20: 1-26, 21: 1- 14
Psalm 29; 1-11, 65: 1-13
29 is a Psalm that honours God's majesty and Psalm 65 is of thanks giving.
The readings today ... David wanted Barzillai to cross over at the river Jordan and to come and live with him in Jerusalem but he asked the king to stay as he was 80 years old and wanted to die in the place where he lived so he offered Chimham to cross over with him and so this all took place and the king went on to Gilgal and Chimham went with him. So all of Israel's and all the troops of Judah escorted the king.
Then Israel quarrels with Judah
Now a wicked man who's name was Sheba son of Bichri happened to be there and he blew the ram's horn and shouted. We have no portion in David, no inheritance in Jesse's son Each man to his ten, Israel. So all the men of Israel deserted David and followed Sheba. But the men from Judah remained loyal to the king.
When David entered his palace in Jerusalem he took the 10 concubines that he had left behind to take care of the palace and placed them under guard and was never intimate with them until they died.
Joab kills Amasa. Amasa was sent by the king to summon the men of Judah within three days but he took longer than he should have so David said to Abishai Sheba will do more harm to us than Absalom so take your lord's soldiers and pursue him and doing his duty he found Amasa and went up to kiss him and in the process of doing this he took his sword and stabbed him in his stomach and killed him and he then went on to find Sheba and they found that he was in Abel of Beth-maacah and he was ready to attack the place when a woman shouted for Joab to come to her and to stop trying to bash the walls down. So Joab went to her and she said to him why are you trying to destroy a city that is like a mother in Israel and why would you devour the Lord's ;inheritance. Joab said he did not want to destroy it but there is a man named Sheba son of Bichri who has rebelled against the king so deliver this one man and I will withdraw from the city so the woman replied she would and she would throw his head over the wall to him and she did this so Joab blew the ram's horn.
During David's reign there was a famine for three years so David inquired of the Lord. and it was because of the blood shed by Saul and his family when he killed the Gibeonites. And so David sorted this out
The Gibeonites avenged
David took the bones of the seven male descendants of Saul's family that was hung and the bones on Saul and his son Jonathan and buried them in the tomb of Saul's father Kish.
David right to the end was faithful to Saul and his family. What a service it is just a pity that Saul could not see the love he had for him and his family.
A gentle answer turns away anger, but a harsh word stirs up wrath' Prov 15:1

125 - David the King
Kathleen's thoughts
Psalm 10: 1-18. 122: 1-9, 92: 1-15
2 Samuel 18: 19-33 19: 1-30
David learns of Absalom's death and his mourning is so severe that it disturbs Israel because of what Absalom had done to him he was told to pull himself together by Joab and be king to the nation and be glad he has his crown restored.
David pardons Shimei.
David returns to Jerusalem and he regains his seat as King of Israel.
David writes some beautiful Psalms one is for justice and praise of Jerusalem and songs of praises. The righteous thrive like a Palm tree and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they thrive in the courtyards of our God. David was always praising our Lord God he breathed it walked it and sang it. Just from reading the word his life with the Lord was I would say spent on his knees in worship and praise. I must admit too that he walked in a lot of forgiveness, what a gentle man to have done this.
Mark 11: 25 And whenever you stand praying if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you your wrongdoing.

124 - Absalom is slain.

Psalm 40: 13-17, 69: 1-36, 70: 1-5,120: 1-7, 121:1-8
121... I raise my eyes toward the mountains where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip your Protector will not slumber. Indeed, the Protector of Israel does not slumber or sleep. The Lord protects you; the Lord is a shelter right by your side. The sun will not strike you by day, or the moon by night. The Lord will protect you from all harm; He will protect your life. The Lord will protect your coming and going both now and forever.
2 Samuel 18: 1-18 In this chapter I could see David standing at the gate as his soldiers marched through them to pursue Absalom and I can hear the anguish in Davids voice. "Treat the young man Absalom gently for my sake" A fathers cry for his son, How sad is that, a broken man but he had no option but to defend Israel because he was anointed to do so.
There were a lot of causalities that day 20,000
Absalom was riding on a donkey when he happened to meet David's soldiers. When the mule went under the tangled branches of a large oak tree Absaom's head got caught in the tree but the mule under him kept on walking so he was suspended in midair. One of the men saw Absalom and told Joab - Joab gets angry with this man and wanting to know why he did not kill him and the mans reply was " I would not raise my hand against the king's son for we heard the kings command to you. Job got angry and ended up spearing Absalom 3 times into his heart. Then Joab blew the rams horn.
They took Absalom and threw him into a large pit in the forest piled stones and left.

123 - My Grace is sufficient for you!

Psalm 4: 1-8, 42: 1-11, 43:1-5, 55: 1-23, 71: 1-24, 28: 1-9, 143: 1-12
When I read these Psalms today it made me think of life in general. How we all suffer from what David is going through! Being depressed because of the situation he is in and then crying out to the Lord and you feel as though the Lord is not hearing your cry. I can so relate to it and yet within my deepest moments I know when I am quite I hear my Masters voice. David's anguish here is so strong and he continues to cry out to the Lord but he also sings praises all the time. 40: 1 I waited patiently for the Lord, and He turned to me and heard my cry for help 2. He brought me up from a desolate pit, out of the muddy clay, and set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.
42: 1 As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for You, God. I thirst for God, the living God.
2 Samuel 17: 25-26 Absalom continues to pursue David.
2 Samuel 17: 27-29 And here God is looking after David and provides for him.
My Grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness; 2 Cor. 12: 8-9

122 - The fool says in his heart there is no God

Psalm 22: 19-31. 14: 1-7, 53: 1-6., 39: 1-13 These Psalms are about prayer, praise, man's wickedness and David crying out to God to guard his ways that he may not sin with his tongue.
It must have been a very hard road for David to travel knowing his own flesh and blood was against him and trying to take his crown from him. But as God says "Touch not my anointed" And here Absalom was not listening. He knew that his father was anointed by God. David must have been a broken hearted father.
2 Samuel 15: 31-37 David sends Hushai his personal adviser to Jerusalem to spy on Absalom.
2 Samuel 16: 1-23 David and Ziba who was Medphilosheth's servant and David asked him Where is your masters son? the king asked. His reply was He's staying in Jerusalem for he said, "Today, the house of Israel will restore my father's kingdom to me.
Shimel the son of Gera who belonged to the family of Saul's household. The cursed him as he approached and threw stones at David.. David being a king who served the Most High God walked by with integrity for he knew who he was in God.
Absalom enters Jerusalem and meets up with Hushi.
Absalom asks advise from Ahithophel in how to conquer king David. Ahithophel told him to sleep with his fathers concubines in the sight of all Israel and it will show that you have become repulsive to your father, everyone with you will be encouraged then Ahithophel also advised Absalom in order to pursue David is to gather 12,000 men and that night he will attack him while he is weak and it will cause him to panic and all the people with him will scatter and I will strike down only the king and bring all the people back to you.
So Absalom told Hushai the plans and Hushai said that was a bad idea as David was a warrior an experienced soldier. The king won't be sleeping with his men he will be hiding in one of the caves. so Hushai told Absalom to gather from Dan to Beersheba and that he must personally go into battle. Then we attack David wherever we find him. and so Absalom took Hushai's advise but in the mean time Hushai sent a message via the priests Sadok and Abiathar that they must send someone to tell David. So this they did by sending a girl to pass that information to Jonathan and Ahimaaz who were staying at En-rogel and they in return will pass that information to David but in the process of all this they were spotted by a young man who then informed Absalom. So the two men left quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim. He had a well in his courtyard and lowered them into it andhis wife put a cover over it and some straw. Absaloms servants came looking for them and asked the woman where Ahimaaz and Jonathan was and she told them they had passed by toward the water. when they had left the men climbed out the well and went informed king David. When Ahithophel realized that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkeys and when and set his affairs in order and hung himself and was buried in his father's tomb.
David had arrived at Manhanaim by the time Absalom crossed the Mordan with all the men of Israel.
I love this scripture... Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of Me. Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. Matthew 5: 11-12
