215 - The sign of the linen girdle

Kathleen's thoughts

Daniel 2: 36-49
Jeremiah 36: 10-32, 13: 1- 27, 14: 1-12

Daniels interpretation And so Daniel interprets the kings dream,.,.
1. The God of heaven has given you sovereignty, power strength and glory. Wherever people live or wild animals, or birds of the air - He has handed them over to you and made you ruler over them all. You are the head of GOLD.
2. After you there will arise another kingdom, inferior to yours, and then another ,
a third kingdom, of bronze, which will rule the whole earth.
A Fourth kingdom will be as strong as iron; for iron crushes and shatters everything and like iron that smashes, it will crush and smash all the others.
You saw the feet and toes, partly of a potter's fired clay and partly of iron - it will be divided kingdom, though some of the strength of iron will be in it.
You saw the iron mixed with clay, and that the toes of the feet were part iron and part fired clay-
part of the kingdom will be strong, and part will be brittle.
You saw the iron mixed with clay - the peoples will mix with one another but will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with fired clay.
In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, and this kingdom will not be left to another people. It will crush all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself endure forever.
you saw a stone break off from the mountain without a hand touching it, and it crushed the iron bronze, fired clay,  silver, and gold.
The great God has told the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation certain.

The king rewards Daniel. By promoting by giving him many generous gifts. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and chief governor over all the wise men of  Babylon.
At Daniels request the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to manage the province of Babylon.
Bur Daniel remained at the kings court.

The word of God is read
The king destroys the scroll
Jeremiah replaces the scroll
The sign of the linen girdleThis is what the Lord said to me; Go and buy yourself linen underwear and put it on but don't get it wet.
The the word of the Lord came to me a second time.
Take the underwear that you bought and are wearing and go at once to the Euphrates River and hide it in a rocky crevice.
A long time later the Lord said to me
Go at once to the Euphrates and get the underwear. this he did and it was ruined - of no use whatsoever.
Then the Word of the Lord came to me;
This is what the Lord says; Just like this I will ruin the great pride of both Judah and Jerusalem.
These evil people who refuse to listen to Me, who walk in the stubbornness of their own hearts, and who have followed other gods to serve and worship - they will be like this underwear, of no use whatsoever.
Just as underwear clings to one's waist, so I fastened the whole house of Israel and of Judah to Me - this is the Lord's declaration.
So that they might be My people for My fame, praise, and glory, but they would not obey.

The wine jar
Jeremiah's warning
The drought

For thought and contemplation.
Jeremiah's sign of the linen girdle was meant to show that Israel had corrupted themselves by their idolatry, so much that they were good for nothing. What an indictment! What sign, do you think, would Jeremiah give us if he were alive today, and wanted to indicate the true condition of the contemporary Christian Church"
For the time has come for judgment to begin with God's household;  and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God? 1 {Pet 4:17}

Blessings
Kathleen.
