1 Samuel 28,30,31.
1 Chronicles 10: 1-14
After today's reading I sit here and ponder on what Saul did by going to a medium and consulting with her it gives me the shivers down my spine. Speaking with the dead is so against God's word and yet here Saul does it and speaks to Samuel - was it Samuel? The words that he spoke all happened to him.
And so Saul and his sons died on the same day. Saul, when he saw he was loosing the battle he asked his armour bearer to slay him but he refused so Saul after being wounded by the Philistines fell on his own sword and died and when his armour bearer saw this he did the same. Saul's sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua also died in this battle.
The next day the Philistines came to strip the slain they found Saul and his 3 sons dead so the cut off Saul's head stripped his armour and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines letting them know what had happened and they placed Saul's armour in the temple of their gods and hung his skull in the temple of Dagon.
A dreadful way to end your reign as king of Israel.
The Jabesh-gilead heard what they had done to Saul the sent brave men to retrieve Saul's body and his sons and they buried their remains under a oak in Jabesh and fasted seven days.
David in the mean time was away from home in Ziklag and when David arrived back after the the third day to find that his town was burnt down and his entire army's and theirs and his family were taken. David consulted with the Lord and the Lord replied Pursue them for you will certainly overtake them and rescue the people. And this David did and he recovered everything the Amalekites had taken he also rescued his two wives, Nothing of theirs was missing from the youngest to the oldest. David then distributes his spoil.
Blessings
