107 - David confronts Saul

Kathleen's thoughts

1 Samuel 25,26,17,28,29
1 Chronicles 12; 1-7 & 19-22

David marries Abigail, he also married Ahinoam of Jezreel, and the two of them became his wives. But Saul had given his daughter Michal, David's wife, to Palti son of Laish, who was from Gallim.

Once again David spares Saul from his sword. David and Abishai came to the troops and Saul was lying there asleep. Abishai said to David "Today God has handed your enemy over to you. Le me thrust the spear through him into the ground just once. But David said "Don't destroy him for who can lift a hand against the Lord's anointed. So David took the spear and the water jug by Saul's head and left.
David crossed to the other side and from the mountain shouted to the troops and to Abner son of Ner why didn't you protect your lord the king when one of the people came to destroy him? Saul recognized David's voice. David again asked Saul why are you pursuing me I have done nothing to harm you I have just saved you and David returned Saul's spear and jug. David said to Saul Just as I considered your life valuable today, so may the Lord consider my life valuable and rescue me from all trouble"

David retires to Gath.
So David went to Achish son of Maoch, the king of Gath. David and his men stayed with Achish in Gath. David said to Achish, If I have found favour with you, let me be given a place in one of the outlying towns, so I can live there. So Achish gave Ziklag to him and it still belongs to the kings of Judah today. David stayed in the Philistine territory a year and 4 months.

David deceives Achish
Achish says to David You know, of course, that you and your men must march out in the army with me. But David is prevented from fighting with them as the Philistines noted that he was David, servant of King Saul of Israel. and told Achish to send him back as it will only cause confusion in their fight and so David went back to Philistine and Achish soldiers marched on to Jezreel.

We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair, we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed 2 Cor 4: 8-9

blessings
Kathleen.
