96 - Samson and Delilah

Kathleen's thoughts

1 Samuel 6,7,14
Judges12,15,16

And so the Ark is returned and the people of Beth-shemesh were in the fields harvesting wheat when they looked up and saw the ark. The people of the city chopped up the cart and offered the cows as a burnt offering to the Lord. The Levites removed the ark of the Lord, along with the box containing the gold objects and place them on the large rock. That day the men offered burnt offerings as a sacrifice to the Lord.

The the men of Bethshemesh looked inside the ark of the Lord and the Lord struck them down for doing so. There were 70 mend of of 50,000.
The ark is then taken to Kiriath-jearim and they took it into Abinadab's house on the hill. and they consecrated his Eleazar to take care of it. It remained there 20 years.

Judges 12 Ibzan judged Israel seven years and he died and is buried in Bethlehem.

Samson and his strength kills 1,000 Philistine men with a fresh jawbone of a donkey.
Samson escapes to Gaza

1 Samuel 14: 49 The name of Sauls wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the commander of his army was Abner son of Saul's uncle Ner.

Sauls sons were Jonathan, Ishvi, and Malchishua. The names of his two daughters were; Merab, his firstborn and Michal, the younger.

The Thirteenth judge was Elon. He judged Israel 10 years and he died, and was buried in Alijalon in the land of Zebulun.

Samson falls in love with Delilah from Sorek Valley. The Philistine leaders went to Delilah and said they would pay her 1,100 pieces of silver if she persuades Samson to tell where his great strength comes from so they can overpower him and make him helpless.

Delilah does this 3 times and the 4th time Samson tells her and he looses his strength causing him to be tied up and his eye gouged his eyes out. They brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze shackles and he was forced to grind grain in the prison. In the mean time his hair began to grow back.
Finally Samson was forced to entertain them by being brought out to the temple and he asked the young man to help him lean on the pillars for support. Samson cried out to the Lord for help and the Lord heard his cry and gave him his strength back and Samson took the 2 pillars bringing down the temple killing himself along with 3,000 men and woman who were in the temple.
Samson judged Israel for 20 years. and was buried between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of his father Manoah.

Samuel began to lead the Israelite's at Mizpah as their judge.
The Israelites heard that the Philistines were marching up towards Israel and the Israelites said to Samuel "Don't stop crying out to the Lord our God for us, so that He will save us from the hand of the Philistines"

Thinking of Samson and Delilah brought me to thought of Jesus
it was 3 times that Delilah was fooled by Samson and on the 4th he gave in
it was 3 times that Peter denied knowing Jesus
Samson pulled down the temple
Jesus said he would demolish the temple and rebuild it in 3 days

Blessings
Kathleen.
