30 – Crossing of the red sea

Kathleen’s thoughts
Exodus 13 – 15

And so the Israelites are now marching to the land of milk and honey. So the Israelites left the land of Eypt in battle formation. Moses taking Joseph’s bones with as was promised by the Israelites to Joseph on his death bed when they left Egypt to take his remains and bury them with his father and family.

Moses said to the people “Remember this day when you came out of Egypt. He brought you out of Egypt by the strength of His hand. It was the month Abib…Abib is the stage in the development of the Barley crops when it is ready for harvesting. It is said that this crop was the only thing that did not get damaged by the hail storms due to it being in its green stage of growth.

God diverts the Israelites through Succoth and they camped at Etham on the edge of the wilderness, The Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to lead them on their way during the day and at night a pillar of fire to give them light at night. (Here I remember that scripture “God is light” 1 John 1:5: This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.)

The Israelites departed from Etham and turned back to Pi-hahiroth and the camped before Migdol. I can imagine the people being afraid when they looked up to see Pharaoh’s army coming towards them. Imagine trying to calm the crowd down. The Lord tells Mosesto lift up his staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divides it so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. Imagine seeing this with your very eyes. Walking into an ocean with the waters like a wall on each side must have been some experience. I love the way the Angel of God, who was going in front of the Israelites moves and goes to behind them The pillar of cloud moved from in front of them and stood behind them coming in between the Egyptians and the Israelites. Imagine being tail end Charlie and seeing the sea closing in behind you and swollowing up the Egyptians what a miracle to witness.

I love the song Moses and the Israelites sing and then Miriam the Prophetess takes her tambourine in her hand and along with all the woman start dancing and singing that song.

Sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; He has thrown the horse and its rider into the sea. Exodus 15:21
